Host a backyard barbecue
Plan to have a 4th of July picnic in your backyard and ask your guests to bring a side dish and/or a dessert. Then you only need to purchase food for the grill. Throw in some lawn games and a sprinkler for the little ones and it will be a fun afternoon for everyone.
Beach Time
Get to the shoreline! A day at the beach can provide fun and relaxation for the entire family. Pack a lunch or pick up a pizza to make it an inexpensive day. Of course, there will be an ice cream truck at the beach, so splurge on a cold treat. And don’t forget the sunblock!
Attend events in your community
Check out community forums and social media to find some 4th of July festivities in your area for the weekend. You’ll likely find a carnival, kid activities, parade, fireworks, free concert or a fair on the green. Many of these activities do not charge an entrance fee so take advantage of these events in your community.
Rent a boat
Get your family and friends together for a fun summer day out on water and share the cost of renting a boat. You can sit back and relax on the boat, or plan activities like water skiing and tubing. Just be sure to bring music, food and drinks onboard to enjoy a day on the water.
The 4th of July is always a fun summer holiday, but it doesn’t have to break the bank. Set a budget and stick to it. These are just a few inexpensive ideas on how to spend the holiday weekend with family and friends on a dime. Enjoy your summer!
