Checking/Savings
Your teen might already be familiar with a checking and savings account, especially if they had a part time job while in high school. A debit card can be a lifeline for a teenager and will come in handy if they need to make a purchase at the bookstore.
Mobile App
Along with their bank accounts, they should have access to mobile banking. Be sure their account is set up before leaving home. Mobile banking is convenient and secure way of managing money. Banking tasks will be quick and easy for them – from checking their account balances to depositing checks with a photo.
Credit Card
Although giving your teenager a credit card to use in college seems risky, credit cards offer better protection versus a debit card. In addition, they’ll start building a credit history. Of course, you’ll need to have a conversation with them on how to manage a credit card responsibly.
Cash
Provide them with some cash, as well as a lock box for their dorm room.
