It is once again Tax Refund season.  You are not alone in looking forward to it--in Connecticut, the average refund last year led the nation at $3,217.71, according to the website governing.com.

According to the IRS, eight out of 10 taxpayers get their refunds by using direct deposit.  It is simple, safe, secure and fast.  In fact, 9 out of 10 taxpayers who file electronically and request direct deposit receive their refunds in less than 21 days.

Tip #1—Once you have all your W2s, 1099s and other paperwork, complete your tax refund as early as possible.

It is highly recommended that you file taxes as quickly as possible.  In recent years, the number of instances of tax refund fraud has dramatically increased, and the people most affected are those who file taxes later in the season.  Also, as the season extends, late filers often wait longer for their refunds.  So, the earlier you file, the sooner you can enjoy your refund!

Tip #2--The best and fastest way to get your tax refund is to have it electronically deposited into your Credit Union account.

Include the following on your tax return:
1.    Sikorsky Credit Union’s Routing Number: 221180806
2.    Your COMPLETE account number, including your account suffix, such as: Member Savings: Suffix 00, Checking: Suffix 90, or Money Market Savings: Suffix 04

Direct deposit is easy to use.  Just select it as your refund method through your tax software and type in your complete account number and Sikorsky Credit Union’s routing number: 221180806.  Or, tell your tax preparer you want direct deposit.  You can even use direct deposit if you file a paper tax return.

It’s easy to track your refund after you have filed your return. Check out the handy Where’s My Refund? tool on the IRS website.  Don't forget that Sikorsky Credit Union members can save $15 when they sign into Turbo Tax via Online Banking.   Sign into your Online Banking account to learn more.
